Chief Instructor, Sensei Jim Palmer, beganhis martial arts career in 1959, practicing Judo on into his early teens and, at the ageof twenty two, he returned to the martial arts to study Shotokan Karate-do and was also a student of traditional Aikido under the auspices of the BritishAikikai. During the ensuing thirty years he has been fortunate to train withmany noteable Japanese Instructors such as Senseis Kanazawa, Asano, Enoeda, Kato, Kasuya, Ichihara, Tsuyama, Ochi, Kase, Shirai, Kawasoe, Masuda, Oumura and Aikido Senseis Chiba and Murashige etc. to name only a few. He has also taught in such countries as Japan, U.S.A.,Kenya, India, Nepal and Spain. In 1988, he travelled to Japan experiencing Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) in Bangkok and Tai Chi in Hong Kong on his way to train at the honbu dojo (headquarters) in Tokyo. Whilst in Japan, Sensei Jim travelled the country training at any dojo along the way and in such places as Tokyo, Kamakura, Osaka, Hiroshima etc.A student of Kanazawa Kancho for well in excess of thirty years, Sensei Palmer currently holds the grade of Nanadan (7th Dan) personally awarded to him by Kanazawa Kancho, he is also an Internationally registered Grading Examiner on behalf of S.K.I.F. Tokyo. Our Instructors are required to have a minimum of ten years experience of karate-do, displayed the desire and ability to communicate the discipline, techniques, philosophies and benefits of traditional Shotokan Karate-do in a manner consistent with S.K.I.F. tradition.
